The All's Well agent skill teaches an AI coding agent, such as Claude Code or Codex, to set up monitoring for the project it is working in. It surveys the project for sites, certificates, scheduled jobs and servers, writes the setup into the repository as `alls-well.json`, applies it through the API, wires each job's heartbeat ping, and ends with a checklist of the steps only a person can do.

## What it does
- **Writes the setup down.** Monitors and alert contacts live in `alls-well.json`, so they are reviewed in pull requests and re-applied after every change. Secrets stay in environment variables.
- **Applies it safely.** A bundled script (Python 3.9 or later, nothing else to install) shows a plan, then creates and updates monitors through the [REST API](https://alls-well.io/docs/api). It only touches monitors named with the project's prefix and never deletes one unless asked. `plan --check` can run in CI to catch drift.
- **Wires heartbeats.** It adds the ping to Laravel's scheduler, cron, systemd timers, GitHub Actions or a queued job, reading the URL from the environment.
- **Hands over the rest.** Connecting servers and WordPress sites, status pages, maintenance windows and allow-listing checkers have no API; the agent ends with exact steps for a person.

## Install it
For the current project, into `.agents/skills/alls-well` (Codex) with a link at `.claude/skills/alls-well` (Claude Code):

```bash
curl -fsSL https://alls-well.io/docs/api/skill/install.sh | bash
```

For every project on your machine, into your home directory:

```bash
curl -fsSL https://alls-well.io/docs/api/skill/install.sh | bash -s -- --global
```

Run the same command again to update it. Agile Pixel staff can also install it from the repository with `npx skills add agilepixel/monitor --skill alls-well`.

To read the skill first, start with [SKILL.md](https://alls-well.io/docs/api/skill/SKILL.md); [files.txt](https://alls-well.io/docs/api/skill/files.txt) lists every file.

## Use it
1. An Owner or Admin creates an API token in **Settings, API tokens** (see [Authentication](https://alls-well.io/docs/api/authentication)).
2. Make it available to the agent as `ALLS_WELL_TOKEN`, without committing it.
3. Ask the agent, for example:

   > Set up All's Well monitoring for this project. Alerts go to ops@example.com.

The agent asks before it changes or deletes existing monitors, and tells you what to set in production.

## For an AI assistant without a project
To manage monitoring from a chat rather than a codebase, connect the assistant to the [MCP server](https://alls-well.io/docs/api/mcp) instead.
